KAKANUI ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of this Board was held yesterday, when there were present —-Messrs'. Gilchrist (Chairman), Walker, M'Aulv, Collis, Aikenhead, ManniftS, M'Donald, Morton, Gemmelj, Thomson, and Oliver (Engineer). The minutesj of hioi meeting were read and (:onarmed, and the outward correspondence was read and approved. The Hon. M. Holmes applied through the Commissioner of Crown Lands to pui'i chase road-line between sections 21 to 2y}, and 28 to 30, block G, Oamaru Strict, ai L2 per acre.—lt was resolved that the matter stand oyer till the next meeting of tho Board. A letter was read from the Secretary of the Oamaru Stone Company offering corner of reserve which encroaches on road-line to Totara Estate, on condition that the Company have reserved the sole right to cross the road at that point by tramway ; also, the right to run a tramway along the rcad-sido to the railway should they require to do so at any future time.—The Clerk was instructed to write to the Company intimating that the Board had no power to agree to the conditions proposed. Mr. T. Brydone, on behalf of the N.Z. and A.L. Company, wrote intimating that he coald see ho necessity for proposed road through sections 5., 6, and 7, bloek 7, Oamaru district, huji would enquire, into the matter a,nd communicate again. The manager of Totara Estate wrote stating that the fastenings of gates on road-line on AVaiareka Flat had been attended to. The rate of 9d in the pound was confirmed, anc} Mr. J. Bee' was appointed valuer for the ensuing year. The Engineer reported on road line between septions 53 to Ga, and 49, to 40, block 5, Oamaru district, with an estimate of the cost of forming the same. It was resolved that tenders be called for formation and culverts on this road as per report. He also asked instructions as to the formation of direct road to Inch--holme. The Clerk was instructed to communicate with Mr, Brydoiie on the matter. It waa resolved that a sum not exceeding LlO be spent on erection of culverts on road line on section 62, block 10, Oamaru district. Accounts amounting to L 326 10d were passed for payment, and the Board rose.
