CANTERBURY TRAINING NOTES. The " Hermit " writes in a Christchurch paper as follows :—There was good muster on the course this njovning to see the wind-up of the week's work, but a very small amount of noticeable galloping was done, and the spectators .was proportionately disappointed. The first I saw moving along was " perpetual njotion Silverstream; who came up the straight'as hard as he could, accompanied by Soukar and Romeo, the .latter pulling up first. Mata ;('nd another were going fast, but I did not see muoh of the gallop. Natator had two turns on the plough. He was wearing a hood, and '.vent, as usual, in anything but a taking manner to the eve. Grand Duchess and Libeller had a single turn, starting from above Ford's and, finishing up with, a spurt home. The chestnut mare has lots of admirers, and would be backed for the Derby if good odds were forthcoming. Laertes and Numa went off together, the former not appearing to relish the idea of galloping, and the big horse (1 re iv a long way away from the Australian during their spin. Billingsgate . worked by himself, looking nvell, and going in good form. Piscatoriou§ p.lso did work alone, ancl had two turns with a hood-, on. Fable and Sir Modred did some work together, and then Mr. Nos worthy's mare was galloped on the plough with a couple of rugs on. Chancellor and York, clothed, had half-speed'exercise, while Te Whetu and; ridden by A. Lyford, worked at a good pace on the. plough. Camballo and Pinfire went once round, Lara then joining in, and they cUd a rattling good " gallop, Hjversley, with Dick Mason, taking part in: it on, the lot' ooming past the/ stand, the second time. Hilarious, ridden by a boy with colors on, did steady canters. Agent went once round slowly, and Luna then led him home at a better pace. ! Maid of Honour did slow Work on the ; plough. Lonehand -and- Templeton, the former stripped,- started together. After a, mile" or more had been covered, Maritaffa! joined'the old horse, and the pair finished a strong gallop in good style. The grey is' looking'well, as, in fact, are all Bob's, team. • Fishhook- was-out, but did' no work, and I suppose Ray has ifound it necessauy to ease hirn ;i Jbut as far as I. could see there was. no. symptoriis 'of lameness, and his legs, which were pot bail-' daged, seemed right enough. Robin Hood and Titania had a fast spin in. company. Hornby, with a light boy, galloped alone ; and Tim Whifller had a nice gallop on the course.' Of Webb's lot, Dajsy and. Edward James were the only cnies to do any work, with the exception of the Governor, as' the.AnterosJievdke .colt is now called, who ' cantered behind the white-legged filly down the straight. She was then put . with Edward James, and starting from the far side, the two -were indulged in a fast gallop of nearly a mile. The colt makes a noise, and the fill j* is, I fear, butmoderate. Yv 7 ebb sent the rest of'his team off the course, and the spectators shortly afterwards went away, as was evident, if more work was to be done, we were not to see. Returning, we met the four Middle Park two-year-olds, who looked healthy and well. The Miss Flat filly, who is reported a wonderfully fast animal, is not very good-looking, and shows less quality than might be expected from her breading. The Somnainbula gelding is a big one, and the Sweetbria? filly, though not big, is not bad-looking.
