❖ The husband of the famous London ber.utv, Mrs. Langtry, sues for a divorce. The Prince of Wales is set down as co- ; respondent. A considerable portion of tLo Irish harvest has been lost. £Y>tatues are short, and. on many of the farms the whole crop is gone. The Duke of Edinburgh has been appointed Superintendent of the Naval Reserve, succeding Admiral Phillimove, whose term has expired. The rumors of the British occupation of Tangiers, Morocco, c.ro pronounced to be false. The Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland has reouested the police authorities of Limerick to make a special report of the circumstances under which Charles Stewart Pnrnell, at the recent banquet, suffered the hissing which greeted the toast of " the Queen" to pass unnoticed. It is mooted that the daughter James C. Flood, the- Bonanza king, will shortly bo married to Ulysses Grant, junior. The acquaintance was formed since the lattcr's arrival in San Francisco. John Henry Puleston, M.P., goes to the United States to study modes of agriculture in connection with British interests. Carlofcta Patti, the sister of Adelina Patti, has been married to Ernest Fi. Munch. The Marquis de Caux was one of the witnesses. Patti is at present in New York. The last batch of amni'stied Communists arrived from New Caledonia in a fearful state of destitution, and suffering from ophthalmia. The State Exposition was op&ned in Chicago on September 3rd, with great prospects of success. John H. Gat-ling, brother of the inventor of the cannon that bears his name, has been found murdered in Murfrersboro, New York. Estelle Johnston, wife of tho exGovernor of Missouri, has committed suicide from grief at tho loss of her child. Carlotta Patti and Co. arrived in New York on -September 17. After visiting San Francisco, they cross the Pacific to Australia, and go from thence Europe by way of the Suez Canal. Gold has been found in paying quantities in Queen Country in Nova Scotia, and companies are being formed to work the ground. The Rev. Talmage, of Brooklyn, New York, did not accept the " call" from a London congregation and remain in England as expected. He returned to Brooklyn. Advices from London say that Captain Goldsmith and wife and crew of the Uncle Sam, from Boston to Europe, had arrived at Liverpool in a vessel which picked them up off Newfoundland. Tremendous gales were encountered, and all the provisions were lost except those they carried. Denis Collins, who left San Francisco for New York, on foot, on June Ist, arrived at his destination on September 4th. King Metesn, ruling near Victoria Nyanza, has abolished slavery throughout his dominion. At least half a million of slaves are thus liberated. The cable between Natal and Mozambique has'been completed. The section between Mozambique and Zanzibar will shortly be laid, and England be placed within nine days communication with South Africa. At the State elections in California, the working men's party elected the Rev. M'Cullock Mayor and Mr. Esmond (connected with the escape of the Australian Fenians some years ago) Sheriff.
