HOSPITAL COMMITTEE.

The Committee of the Qamaru Hospital held their usual monthly meeting last evening, when there were present— Messrs. T. H. Brown (President), D. S. Montagu, Mainland, and Headland. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, and the outward correspondence was approved. A letter was received from Mr. W. J. Steward tendering his resignation as a member of the Committee, he being about to reside in Waimate. It was resolved to acknowledge the receipt of the letter, thanking Mr. Steward for his past services in connection with the Hospital. The report of the Visiting Committee ■ffas read as follows : Your Visiting Committee made their usual weekly visit of inspection of the Hospital on the 18th inst., and are glad to be able to report that they found everything in good order, find the house arrangements entirely satisfactory. The number of patients then under treatment was B—viz., 6 males and 2 females.. j The main entrance gate has now been repaired, and the shrubs along the avenue cleared of weeds. j Tradesmen's accounts are presented for ' payment aggregating L 23 7s 3d. ! Besides Mrs. Clowes' gift of illustrated papers, the Hospital has also received this month one of, a like nature from Mf, Henry Fry, as well as a welcqme donation of three sacks of potatoes from Mr, T. W. Hislop.

Your Visiting Committee have row to recall your attention to the consideration urged in a former report as to the desirableness or not of getting gas into the buildings, the mains having since been extended up Eden-street as far as Mr. Hood's house. The Secretary was instructed to write to the Municipal Council asking how far the gas pipes would be taken towards the Hospital, with a view to lighting the institution with gas. Messrs. James Hassell, jun., A. Kerr, and T. Morris were appointed to act on the Committee in the place of Messrs. Dunlop, Christie, and Steward. Accounts amounting to L 23 7s 3d were passed for payment, and the Committee adjourned.
