(from our own correspondents.) DUNEDIN. October 15. The charge of murder against William Waters was brought to. a close shortly after midnight, and resulted in a verdict acquitting the accused. At the close of the case for the prosecution, the foreman of the jury asked the judge if the jury could give a verdict at once without waiting to hear the defence or the judge's summing. This his Honor refused to allow, and the case for the defence w;is then gone into. After his Honor had summed up, the jury brought in a verdict of Not guilty on the charge of murder. CHRISTCHURCH. October 15. The case of Barker v. the Lyttelton Times is proceeding before a special jury. Messrs. Joynt and Holmes appear for the plaintiff, and Mr. George Harper for the defendant.
