A SUGGESTION.
TO THE EDITOR OP THE OAMARU MAIL. Verbum sat sapienti. Sib, —In a recent issue of the Mail I read with interest a letter from one who had travelled on the Main North Line re refreshment rooms at Oamaru, and comparing it unfavorably with Ashburton . and Timaru, both these last mentioned r townships being provided with refreshment rooms for the convenience of the travelling public, while at Oamaru, the . second town in Otago, there is not the slightest pretence to this much-needed requirement. But I have great pleasure in informing the readers of the Mail that at a certain railway station not 100 miles from Awamoko J unction there is a foreshadowing of great things to come. Although no refreshment rooms are erected—mirabile dictu, for the last, week or ten days, a barrel of beer has bseu judiciously placed on the platforna, and beer, being supplied gratuitously, has proved a public boon alike to those who travel by rail and to thirsty weary-wotn travellers oil foot. Hoping that this auspicious beginning may be the forerunner of better things for Oamaru, and other towns, similarly aituated, I subscribe myself A.G.H. Hilderthorpe, Oct. 8, 1879.
