j (FEU I'ItESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON. October 11. Tiie Evening Chronicle to-night publishes an apology for certain charges contained in a report published during a late municipal election reflecting on the character of Mr. Clark, drainage engineer. An action for libel had been commenced. Mr. Clark's solicitors are understood to have accepted the apology. DUNEDIN. October 11. The boating season was to have been inaugurated to-day with a procession, but owing to the water being rather lumpy this diil not come off. The Telegraph Club's boat Day's Folly was one of the first to go down the harbor, but it capsized. The crew, however, were soon rescued, none the worse for their misadventures except that they received a ducking. NAPIER. October 12. A meeting of the unemployed was held r;n Saturday evening in the Theatre Royal. There W' re a good many present, but there did not appear to be much spirit in the affair. Thoso that got it lip had their resolutions ready cut and dried, and the whole proceedings did not occupy quire half-an-hour. One speaker stated that there are MOO men or more unemployed in the place, but the statement i.s doubtful. Resolutions were passed (1) drawing the attention of ihe Mayor and Rorough Council to the number of unemployed, and requesting that all necessary works be proceeded with without delay. (2) Declaring that the time had arrived when freo or assisted immigration should cease, and thai; representations to that effect be forwarded to the Government. (3) That a report of the meeting be forwarded to the Minister of Public Works, and to the leading papers in the United Kingdom.
CHRISTCHURCH. October 11. Shortly before 1 p.m. to-day a horse drawing a buggy, in which were seared Misses Dearden, of Fendaltown-road, and Miss Whitta, was seen furiously galloping along Hereford-street across the bridge, j and making in the direction of the Domain Gardens. On reaching Montreal-street the horse turned quickly round the corner and overturned the vehicle, throwing the occupants violently to the ground. Miss Dearden was injured about her head and body, while her sister, who remained unconscious for some time, had her left arm fractured. MissWhiira fortunately escaped with only a severe shaking. The Agricultural and Pastoral Association are having 10 addition..! horse-boxes erected on their grounds for accommodation of valuable animals at the November show. AUCKLAND. October 11. A fire occurred at Mr. Beasley's residence, through the melting of a gaspipe, but it was suppressed. Mr. John Brown, of Cambridge, had his collar bone broken while shooting, by the recoil of a gun. WANGANUL October 13. Delanev, the pedestrian, walked fifty miles iu twenty minutes under ten hours oil Saturday.
