ELECTION GOSSIP.
(by telegraph.) Dujtedln - ; September 6. The Waikouaiti election took place on Saturday. The following is the polling Waikouaiti : Arkle, 29; M'Lean, 194. Palmerston : Arkle 1 , 146 ; M'Lean, 70 ; Dunback : Arkle, 18 ; M'Lean, 27. Waihemo : Arkle, 17; M'Lean, 4. Macrae's Flat: Arkle, 37; M'Lean, 17- Majority for M'Lean, 65. The following is the polling for Tuapeka : —Brown, 427 ; Clayton, 301. Majority for Brown, 60. Wellixotox. September 6. The following is the result of the Manawatu election :—.Johnston, 431 ; Halcombe. 426 : Snelson, 203. One return has yet to come in, which will increase Johnston's majority. Auckland, September 6. Dr. Wallis and Mr. Hurst were elected today City West. The numbers were—-Wallis, 1045 ; Hurst, 1010 ; Stark, 232 ; Newman, 128. Messrs. o'B.orke and Robert Graham were nominated for Onehunga. At the Bay of Islands nomination the show of hands was in favor of Wi Kater.e. The candidates nominated were Wi Katene, Messrs. Williams, M'Leod. and Lundon. September 8. Great interest is manifested in the Waikato election. A special train is running to Mercer with Auckland voters. Messrs. Williams and Lundon have addressed the Bay of Islands electors at Wangaroa. Both received votes of confidence. iNaxiei;, September 8. The election is causing great excitement, which is more intense because it is doubtful whether it will be valid, as the polling booth at Hastings was not open, through some mis
understanding, until two hours late. Where the error lay cannot be ascertained. The result of the polling is excitingly doubtful. Mr. Ormond is addressing meetings all through the dive district. He invariably receives a vote of confidence ; but Mr. Shcehan is expected to run hiui pretty close. Kelson", September 6. The city poll took place yesterday with the following result : —-Pitt, -105 ; Adams, 429 ; Curtis, 221 ; Graham, 202. Xk\v Plymouth, September 6. The following is the result of the poll : Kelly, 227 : A." C'. Fooks, 100. I>lknjh:im. September S. For the Cheviot elections the numbers here are—Saunders, SS : luglis, G7. One or two returns not in, but cannot affect result. Timakc, September f>. Mr. Turnbull has been returned for Timai'U by a majority of Ib'ii. "lsvEKCAr.c:]Lt, September 7. The complete returns for Riverton are — M'Caughan. 2£>9 ; Baldy, ICS ; Hankinson, 104 ; Hodgkinson, 52 ; Lyon, 30 ; M 'Donald, 26.
