(FROM OtTB OWJ» COBReSfOSPBJJTS.) DUNEDIN. September 3. Peter Wedderspoon, aged 19, died from the effects of a gunshot wound received whilst rabbit shooting on Monday. Mr. A. D. Johnston has retired for Waikaia. At the City Police Court, a jeweller was charged with a breach of the Females Act, in employing an apprentice continuously for hours ; also, under the same Act, with "neglecting to supply the Magistrate of the (district with the hours of employment in his factory. Mr. Watt held that the Act applied to apprentices of all kinds, male and female, and inflicted a nominal penalty in each instance. The Benares judgment bjames everybody concerned. Captain Thomson, one of the nautical assessors, differs from it, holding that the pilot Paton was justified in fc&ing the ship out, and forwards a special report to the Governor. A six-roomed Jiouse at Carey's Bay, occupied by Charles Jacpbsen, was burnt down. The building was insured in the National for L2OO, and the furniture for LIQO in th.e same office.
