Tub nomination of candidates for the representation of Waitaki in the House of Representatives will take place at noon to-morrow at the Courthouse. So far only three candidates have formally announced their intention to contest the election, but a rumor has to-day been current that a surprise is in store for the electors in the shape of a fourth candidate. Who this fourth aspirant for the honor of representing the district is we cannot say, but it is believed by some that Sir. John Mtean will prove to be the " dark horse," while others mention the name of Mr. Smythies, of Otepopo. As these arc, however, merely conjectures, they must be accepted for what they are worth. It may torn out the rumored fourth member is a man hitherto not thought of, or as, we believe will be the case, the rumor may prove a mere canard.
