ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE OAMARU MAIL. Sir,- —-The general election shortly to take place is beginning to be an uppermost topic of conversation here, as in other districts. It is much to be regretted that Ngapara is not a polling place. I would strongly recommend our returned representatives, and any other gentlemen aspiring to Parliamentary honors, to make application to proper quarters to have this district declared such. The contest will, in all probability, be a keen one, and the votes of eligible parties cannot but be valuable, at the same time it is hardly to. be looked for that such can spend a whole day in going to Oamaru, incurring a eon--siderable expense and loss of very valuable time at this busy season of the year* iSgapara is becoming an important district, fresh families are constantly settlings in our midst, and with favorable seasons the harvest yields are largely on the; increase, and it consequently deserves to be personally visited. I trust, therefore, we shall not be overlooked, either in hearing the views, intentions, or aspirations of gentlemen purporting to come forward for a seat in our new Parliament, or in being permitted to record our votes in our own township.—l am, &c., Ngaparian. August 12, 1579.
