The total stock of tallow in London to date is 10,000 casks. August 9. The New Zealand 5 per cent. 10-40 loan is quoted at 104. The Board of Trade returns of imports for the past month show the amount to be L 30.750,000, showing a decrease of L 5,750,000. The total returns of exports for the last month show a slight improvement. A large fire has occurred at Seraievo. One thousand buildings were burnt, and ten thousand people rendered homeless. Madrid, August 8. The King of Spain, returning from the funeral of his second sister, Marie del Pelar, was thrown from his carriage, and dislocated his shoulder. It has since been reset.

The latest news from the Cape reports that Sir Garnet Wolseley is reported to have censured Lord Chelmsford for precipitating the battle of Ulundi without awaiting his arrival.
The Transvaal Boers are assuming a hostile attitude. Repressive measures are necessary. A financial crisis has occurred at Montreal. The crisis is severely felt, and causes wide misery.
