f (FROM OUK OWN COJIRE-SPOXUi NTS.) DUNEDIX. August 2. At the City Court to-dr.v, Thomas Chalmers Reid was charged wi: .1 forging a bill of exchange in the name of J. C. Reid, his brother, at Timaru. Mr. Leary, creditors' trustee, said the bill was found in prisoner's oflice desk. A remand for a week was granted, bail being allowed, prisoner in L3OO, and two sureties of Ll5O each. Messrs. Driver and Bastings will go to Wellington on Monday. The Maori prisoners seem orderly disposed and inclined to conform to prison retaliations. They are to employed on the Maitland-street works, at Port Chalmers. PALMERSTON. August 2. At the nomination of candidates for the representation of the Dunback Riding, in the Waikouaiti County Council, in place of Mr. J*. M'Jveuzie, resigned, Captain Kitchiner was returned unopposed. CHRISTCHTTRCH. August 2. Mr. George Gould has received advices from Redfern, Alexander and Co., who have placed a part shipment ex Waikato at 49s per quarter, the top quotation in the market of long-bearded Tuscan wheat, valued equal to Adelaide.
