OAMARU HARBOR BOARD.
The regular meeting of the Harbor Board was held to-day, when there were present Messrs. Sumpter (chairman), Steward, Aiiken, Shrimski, Duncan, Hassell, Borrie, Menlove. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, and the outward correspondence was read and approved. A letter wa3 read from the UnderSecretary of the Railway Department, stating that no negotiations had been entered into for the lease of the frontages in Tyne-street as previously alleged. The manager of the New Zealand Hardware Company notified to arrival of two shipments of concrete. Messrs. Hislop and Creagh/the Board's solicitors, wrote, forwarding the form of debentures for the.LIOO,OQQ ( It was resolved that the question of the date of the first payment of interest should be left to the Finance Committee, the solicitors, and the banker to arrange. It was decided to forward the debentures Home by the outgoing mail, and the question of insuring the debentures was left to the Finance Committee.
Messrs. Ferrier and Rock wrote stating that after the expenditure of a large amount of time and material they were reluctantly compelled to come to the con - elusion that the picture of the Breakwater would not bear enlarging, as it would not be such as to be fit for a public exhibition. They hoped shortly to submit an ordinary view of the Breakwater, surrounded by a dozen views of the town.
Messrs. James Craig and Co. wrote, applying to purchase a few iron-bark logs, iu order to enable them to fulfil an order received from the Government. It was decided to comply with the request. The Secretary read a lengthy memorandum, giving the history and progress of the harbor works, &c., in conformity with a request from the Board, for submission to the Governor, for his Excellency's information. Mr. Steward said that while in Oamaru recently,' Mr. J. L. Gillies, Secretary of the Dunedin Harbor Board, had had an interview with him, in the course of which he suggested that, a meeting should be held at Oamaru of representatives of the Dunedin, Invercargill, Oamaru, and other boards, to discuss matters of common interest, and he (Mr, Steward) now handed l to the Chairman a letter from Mr. Gillies on the subject, in the course of which hg stated that he had seen Mr. Lumsden, of
Invercargill, and that the suggestion had his approval. After some discussion, it was resolved that Mr. Gillies be thanked for his suggestion, but that no action be taken in
the matter at present. The Secretary then read the draft of a Bill to be introduced nest session, empowering the Board to borrow the whole LIOO,OOO at once, instead of being limited to L 30,000 during the first two years. The draft was approved of. Accounts to the amount of L5Ol 14s lOd were passed for payment, and the Board rose.
