ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.

COFFEE PALACE FOR OAMARU. TO TIIE EDITOR OF THE OASIAIIU MAIL. But, —At. the first sitting of the Committee appointed at the preliminary meetins; for the above object (Mr. John Falconer in the chair), attention having been drawn to your leading article of the Ist inst.. the undersigned were jointly authorised to correct any misapprehension that might exist ill the minus of yourself and your readers regarding the calling cf such preliminary meeting, hence the present letter. Two individual members of the Board of the Young Men's Christian Association having promised to pay for advertising ■ the preliminary meeting, asked the use of the Association's rooms on economical grounds, and, as you will notice, the ad- : vertiscment stated the rooms were " kindly lent for the occasion." Those who acted as above knew there was a certain interest taken in the project, but were unaware that it was so great as they find it is, and arc greatly pleased that it will require less " working up " to prove a success. Looking to the interest manifested, the Cniiimitf.ee appointed on Monday have determined to call the meeting to receive their report in a larger and, if possible, more neutral place, and to suggest that a laryer Committee be appointed to do anything further required in taking the preliminary steps, and that such Committee be one on all hands admitted to embrace i representatives of all those interested in, or likely to be benefited by, the move- ! incut.—We are, etc. Joseph Mikams, Convenor of Committee. D. S. Montagu, I Secretary of Committee. ~ , , „\
