A heavy gale sprang up this morning, and the barque Australian Sovereign,
which put in for shelter, was driven ashore on Petone Beach. It is impossible to communicate with her. She is not likely to be damaged much, as it is a handy beach.
■Waxganui, June 21.
The cutter Annie, from Auckland, is on shore at the North Spit, Wanganui Heads. As a heavy sea is running, she is likely to be a complete wreck. She is loaded with drain pipes. The captain of the St. Kilda reports that, when entering the river last night, at about 11 o'clock, he saw a two-masted steamer bumping heavily on the bar, with the sea breaking over her. He could not say definitely what steamer it was, but possibly it is the Tui. The steamer Manawatu has gone to her assistance.
