Victoria and Miss May ran their byes in company, and went a good two miles. Lyric and Manchester had a long and well-contested course. Belle of- the Isle was a winner from the first in her run with Bugler, and Fairy easily beat Idle Girl. In the first ties, Shylock ran a goad course before he beat King William. Miss May did most of the work in her run with Victoria, who had been injured by a kick, and Lyric proved herself a fast bitch in beating the Palmerston favorite. In the second ties, Shylock was too strong and fast for Miss May on the hill sides, while Fairy beat Lyric after a clever contest, fop the deciding course, Shylocl? a.nd Fairy were in the slips when darkness came on.
