Tole will address his constituents of Eden on Monday, on education and taxation. • It is stated that there is great dissatisfaction amongst the native claimants at the Court's decision regarding the Okarua Block, which may postpone the" settlement of the block! Judge Monro's decision in favor of the Ngatihinerangi and Ngatiraukawa tribes has disgusted them. They had left the block prior to the. treaty of Waitangi," and had not occupied it since ; hence the Judge's adverse decision. The natives from the West Coast districts, at the Native Land Court, Cambridge, stated that there will be no fighting, and that none was ever intended. NAPIER. June 12. The trial of M'Lonnan for wife murder is postponed till the December sittings of the Supreme Court, in order that inquiries may be made in England as to prisoner's antecedants. TIMARU. June 12. At the Supreme Court to-day, William Rogers, false pretences, was sentenced to 12 months; John Henry J.imes, unnatural offence, to four years ; Sarah Steele, forging and uttering, three days. This concluded the criminal calendar. Jonathan Allpress- obtained LIOO damages out of LIOOO : claimed, against J. D. Rogers, for malicious prosecution for embezzlement. GREYMOUTH. June 19. i Captain Bignell, of the Waipawa, who knows the country well, says that the volcanoes reported by Captain Conner are •simply caused by settlers burning land. NEW PLYMOUTH. June 13. The Nelson, schooner, from Oamaru, whilst entering the Waitara River yesterday, got on the North Spit. ;: She was got" ofi' during this .morning's tide, and is now unloading at the wharf. INYERCARGILL. June 13. At the Supreme Court yesterday, Charles Allen Young wits sentenced to five years for. .forgery and uttering; Patrick Kenny, for attempted rape, to two years' hard labor and 25 lashes with the cat-of-nine-tails. ■ These wiere the only convictions. Kenny, a stolid looking fellow., was. much r surprised when the whipping was mentioned.
