One of the men who were drowned yester day at Mocraki was a married man, and has, we believe, made little or no provision for his family. We are informed that Mr. Stuart, the Government Life Assurance agent, recently spent a considerable time in trying to induce him to effect an insurance on his life, but in vain. This should act as a warning to others not to delay this important matter. No man is unable to pay the premium on a small policy, and it is quite unfair that the thrifty portion of the community should be compelled to pay for the support of tho3e who shirk their just share of common obligation. A special meeting of the WaiarcKa Road Board is called for to-morrow at 1 o'clock. There wag .mother crowded house at tlic Volunteer Hall last evening, when Professor and Mrs. Baldwin appeared for the second and last time in their clever performance. The front seats were especially well filled, for it was actually necessary to provide a large number of additional chairs. The :iL"io3t '.'cod order prevailed, and the performance was thoroiighly enjoyed. The programme was in some part the same as on the previous evening, hut Professor Baldwin carefully explained the manner in which every trick was performed, and created some amazement and great applause by showing how simple those tricks that appeared bewildering really were. Professor and Mrs. Baldwin proceeded north this afternoon, and the\- will appear at Waimate this evening. Wc can confidently recommend our northern friends to patronise the entertainment.
