MELBOURNE GRAIN MARKET. {From the Australasian, May 31.) Sinew the date of our last report breadstuffs have exhibited great firmness, and prices have shown a steady tendency to advance. Saturday was a holiday, ana on the resumption of business* on Monday transactions in Hour ware readily etfeetedat Lt 1 15a ; there were, however, holders who. refused to quote umter Lt2. Wheat likewise presented a strong tone, and 5s 9d to 5s 9d could readily he obtained. A parcel of 230 bags prime brought 5s i)d. anil about 250 bngtf of secondi-class wheat found a purchaser at 5s 3d. Supplies from the country districts for last weefc. though a good deal less than the week before, are still considerable. On Tuesday, notwithstanding that buyers at the auction sales showed tittle disposition to operate, breadstuffs were firm, and full rates were obtained for anything disposed of. Flour realised LI I 17s 6d for A small parcel sold publicly, and » line of 25 tons was, taken up privately at Lt'-. W heat met with tittle competition. A smalt tot Was quitted at 5s tOd, and another small tot at 5s 9d, while after the sale was over a tmet of 400 bags of prime Western was placed at 5s 9d. To-day the market has been slightly irregular. We quote Hour LI I tSa to Lj'-J, whilst for wheat millers have not been inclined to give the top price, but have shown willingness to operate at a slight concession; 1800 bags w»r» sotd at auction front 4s s|d to 5s 9d. a small parcel of seed 11 |d. In oats a fair business has been doing at virtually unaltered rates. On Monday milling were quoted; at 3s 8d to 3s 9d, while feeding continued to range from 3s 3d to 3s 7d. On Tuesday the business all went through the auction mart. About 3200 bushels New Zealand and Tasmanian were quitted at 3s ESd to 3s 3d for light feed 3s 4d to 3s 5d for medium, and 3a iMjd for milling. To-day not much business was reported in oats, we quote 3s 3d to 3s 7d for feeding and 3s 8d for milting; a parcel of 300 bags was reported sold in bond. At the auction sales on Tuesday business was done in barley; nearly 600 bags New Zealand were disposed of at 5s 6d to 7s. To-day tow malting has been sold at ss, whilst fine has been si3eabte at 6s 9d. In maize a trade demand has been experienced at rates showing little advance. On Monday 2s 9d was quoted from Sydney by telegram, with moderate arrivals. A trade business was done on that day at 3s 7d. On Tuesday, privately, sales were making steadily at 3s tfjd to 3s 7d, while 680 bags were cleared off tinder the hammer at 3s 6d for otd. and 3s 6£d to 3s 7d for prime new. To-day 1000 bags were sold privately at 3s 7sd. Fiji maize was also sold at 3s 7d for line, and 3s 5d for inferior. Bran has been in demand at Is 2.Jd, pollard at Is 3d. Victorian oatmeat commands L2-t. In London, by a telegram date May 23, we learn that wheat had fallen 6d per quarter; Adelaide was quoted at -47s 6d to 48s fid per496tbs.es warehouse. Flour was reported unchanged.
