RESIDENT MAGISTRATES RATES COURT.
THIS DAY. (Before T. W. Parker, E.sq., R.JI., and S. E. Sllßiiisiii, Esq., J.P.) LAHCENZ. Alfred Hostins, on remand, charged with stealing a number of articles from one Charles Murphy, was sentenced to two months' imprisonment. 'The -same prisoner was also charged with stealing a revolver, the property of George Greenfield, but &3 the prosecutor would not positively swear to the revolver being his property, the case was dismissed. INSTXLTUfG LANGUAGE. Isabella Kenny was charged with, using insulting language towards Clara Acres, ■ Clara Acres deposed that she lived in Itchen-street, and defendant lived next door. She remembered the Bth inst., ;
and from half-past 3 to half-past 6 o'clock defendant was continually insulting her. She had never given defendant any provocation. and merely wished their Worships to bind her over to keep the peace. William Grant, a colored man, deposed that he lived in one of the cottages on the hill in lichen-street. He was taking his tea on Sunday evening when he heard a disturbance outside. Defendant appeared to be the worse for liquor, and the language used by her towards complainant was very disgusting, and could be heard in the street. Michael Kenny, husband of the defendant, deposed that 011 Sunday afternoon complainant came to his house and asked for some baking soda. A. W. Cottenham was in the house. She received the soda and threw it in the face of liis wife. She also threw a stool at Cottenham, and said to him, "If you are not out of Mrs. Kenny's house in ten minutes I will take your life." The Bench bound .'defendant over to keep the peace for six: months, and to find a surety of L 5 for her, doing so. John George was charged with using insulting language towards Charles Day. Mr. Hislop for complainant, Mr. Balmer for defendant. Charles Day deposed that on the 2nd instant he went to the railway siding at Papakaio, and met defendant there. He said that they were going to bury Mr. Duffield like a dog. said they were going to do nothing of the sort, and not to be bo foolish. Defendant called him a swindler and robber and challenged him to fight. Thomas Prentice, being sworn, deposed to having heard defendant use insulting language towards complainant. The Bench inflicted a fine of 20s and 20s cost, or four days' imprisonment.
