MR. AND MRS. BALDWIN.

This evening the public will have the opportunity of meeting . Mr. and Mrs. Baldwin, the justly celebrated exposers of Spiritualism, at the Volunteer Hall. Tlieir's is not a catch-penny entertainment. What they do is really wonderful in the extreme, and although, unlike the Spiritualist Slade, Mr. Baldwin puts the audience on the alert by informing them that all he does is mere trickery, it is difficult to believe that lie does not bring supernatural agency to his aid. We saw Slade's slate-writing trick done in the presence of several gentlemen, who were narrowly watching to -detect deception, but who were as wise as ever until the .modus operandi was publicly explained. But it would o.ccupy a column to tell of the miraculous things - that he does. Unlike many of those who profess to do what he does, he keeps up the interest throughout the entertainment, his explanations and pleasantries being most enjoyable. We can confidently recommend .the public to spend an hour ' or two with Mr. and Mrs.- Baldwin. They conclusively demonstrate "that "Spiritualism,'.' as the word is understood, is a sham. The Professor has kindly | offered to give a private seance for the benefit of the.Press and friends, and if he treats them as hp did- the Press and friends of Dunedin, they will have reason ;io believe .that they have bepn, associating j> i h gome'hingmore than a hunian being. VVe are glad to learn Mrs.- Baldwin will be put into a clairvoyant state to!night, and r to-morrow night if her state of health will permit. This is ope of -the most interesting items of a startling' entertainment. jr.? :•
