The first clay's catalogue for the wool sales this month consisted of 5500 bales. Sydney, June 5. The Australian and European Bank at Melbourne has stopped payment. Particulars are not yet known. There is terrible excitement at other banks and Building Societies. A notice oil the door of the European Bank states that the Associated Banks will cash their cheques (? notes). Later. The Sydney branch of the Australian and European Bank has just closed. The liabilities are all in Melbourne. The panic continues in Melbourne.
