LIVINGSTONE.
(from our own correspondent. ) May 29. The Committee of the Miners' Association met on the 2Sth inst. The usual routine business having been transacted, the Chairman read a letter from the Goldfields' Seoretary to the effect that the amount of compensation asked being so exorbitant the Government could not at present entertain the Committee's proposition for the exchange of land, unless some compromise oould be made. If this could be done, they would consider it, and submit the same to the House of Representatives. The School Committee holds its adjourned meeting to-night. I learn that Mr. Farquharson has written a most insulting and threatening letter to our esteemed missionary, Mr. H. L. Gilbert, Tho road here, about a mile from the township, is in a very bad state, and is quite dangerous to travellers, owing to a leak in one of the dams. The water is undermining the road. lam sure the County Council would have it attended to at once, if the Inspector was made aware of the fact. The Farquharson party, I hear, are canvassing the district for signatures to a petition, as they say, to have the teacher removed. I heartily wish them tho success due to their zeal,
