This information has therefore been given in the case of all
boroughs, except Sydenham, haying a population of 3000 and over, Hokitika being included, as it was mentioned iu former reports. The information has not been obtainable for Sydenham, on account of the want of local information as to the boundaries of that borough, and the impossibility therefore of ascertaining whether certain births and deaths occurred within or without that borough. Of the above deaths 120 were of males, and 69 females. Ninety-one of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 48.14 per cent, of the whole number. Sixty-four of these were of children under one year of age.
