SPECIAL CABLEGRAM.
[from our own correspondent. ] London, May G. The London Colonial wool sales opened this morning. The total arrivals were upwards of 300,000 bales. The attendance of Home and foreign buyers was large, and the bidding commenced with great spirit. Prices range about the same as at the last series. The first day's catalogue consisted of upwards of 7500 bales. Port Philip wools preponderate, and show a small advance. Wales petitions the House of Lords to. legalise marriage with deceased wife's sister. Sydney, May 7. The statements made in the New Zealand papers received, relative to cable
message thieving, caused intense merriment. The Vogel cable was not printed in the Evening News, owing to its being false, but was issued by me as an extraordinary. 100 slips were printed and issued, at the time the cable thieves reached our offices, and the trap was successful. The statement about forgery is therefore transparent. The slips are posted with full details. You can publish this with my naine attached. Ea.ynes.
