WAITAKI HIGH SCHOOL BOARD.

A meeting of the Waitaki High : School Board of Governors was held this afternoon, when there were present —Messrs. Shrimski (Chairman), Steward, Miller, and Sumpter (Hon. Secretary pro. tern. ).

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

The Chairman of the Otago School Commissioners (Mr. J. -P. Maitland) wrote forwarding a draft for LB3 2s 4d, being the refund of rents collected by the School Commissioners on reserves belonging to the Board of Governors of the Waitaki High School, from 29th October, 187S, the date on which the reserves were vested in the Board, to the 30th April. The writer also enclosed a statement, showing when the rents upon the reserves are payable, and pointing out that with one exception the rents are due on the 12th May. The Hon. Secretary's action in placing the sum received in deposit for six months was approved. The Hon. Secretary reported having received from the Commissioners a complete list of the reserves and the rentals received from them, and said that Mr. Prdye, the Secretary of the Education Board, had kindly afforded him every information and assistance, and that he had been placed ill possession of the fullest information. He also laid upon the table Crown grants for the reserves. The Secretary was empowered to obtain the necessary books for keeping the Board's accounts and to secure the necessary occasional clerical assistance. The Hon. Mr. Miller and Messrs. Shrimski and Sumpter were appointed a committee to look out for a sight for the school building, and report upon the subject at a future meeting, in being generally understood that it was necessary to securea large and well situated site, one if possible of not less than 20 acres, Mr. Miller pointing out that upon the size and situation greatly depended the success of the school. Some discussion also took place upon the subject of a motto and seal for the Board, but further consideration was postponed until next meeting. The Secretary was instructed to send out accounts to all persons indebted to the Board for rent. The Board then rose.
