LIVINGSTONE.

[FKOjr OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] A meeting of the School Committee and Library Trust was held on Wednesday, 23rd inst., Mr. R Botting in the chair. It was decided to open evening, classes, at a nominal charge of 6d weekly, and the Secretary was instructed to apply to the Education Board for a share in the Government library subsidy. A SubCommittee being appointed to select the books. On Friday, 25th inst., the Committee of the Miners' Association held, its meet-

ing. A letter was read from the Secretary for Goldfields, in reply to that of the Association, to the effect that the Warden's report, being in the character of a privileged communication, a copy could not be supplied them. The report referred to was the result of an enquiry instituted by the Government in connection with a memorial by the Hon. R. Campbell and others re pollution of the Maerewhenua Hirer, and a memorial from miners for exchange of land, etc. It was stated that the ends of justice were frustrated by the Wardens leaning to the squatters' interest, instances of which were referred to. After a spirited discussion, lasting nearly an hour, it was decidAl to request the Chairman to repic. A letter from the Minister for Lands was also read, to the effect that land selected at Kurow by Messrs. Aitken and Mowat, for exchange, was unavailable. The Chairman was instructed to enclose a copy to Mr. Aitken.
