DUNTROON.

(from our own correspondent.) This thriving township has greatly improved in appearance of late. The Schoolnouse and schoolmaster's residence were completed on Saturday last. The contractor, Mr. Morton, having finished off his job in a most workmanlike manner, and their prominence and the pleasing effect they produce quite give the place an imposing aspect. The school opens on Wednesday, the 9th inst., with a tea meeting, concert, and dance, which promises to be a great success. The Telegraph and Post Office will also be finished in about a month, judging from the energetic manner in which Mr. Hewitt is going about it, and when it is erected, and the railway buildings are on the Duntroon side, we shall feel not a little proud of our township, I assure you. The Library will soon be in working order, and as all the inhabitants are very enthusiastic with respect to it, there is not the least doubt but that it will become a most flourishing institution here. There appears to be a marrying mania at Duntroon at the present time, and as several small buildings have been lately erected, and I hear of more going up, it certainly shows that the folks here have great faith in the stability and prosperity of the township. The contractor for the Maerewhenua bridge had been progressing very favorably with that structure until about a a fortnight ago, when he had to almost entirely suspend work in consequence of delay in arrival of timber, his vessel having to put back to Newcastle in consequence of some maritime disaster. But I have 110 doubt that he will make up for lost time when he is able to start again.
