DUNTROON.

(iTiO.M OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)

At a meeting of the Duntroon School Committee, held on Saturday last, Mr. It. M. Sunley was appointed secretary in the stead of Mr. Spence resigned. The Committee resolved to open their new school with a conversazione, to be followed by a concert and dance, which will take place on Wednesday, April 9th. Miss Snow has kindly offered to lend and preside at her piano on this occasion, and as our small township can boast of some good singers, we look forward to a very pleasant evening, especially as I hear that some well-wishers from Oamaru have kindly promised to b.e present and assist with songs, &c. The school and residence are now finished, and have added much to the appearance of the township. The Post and Telegraph Office is being built on a portion of the reserve upon which the school, &c., stand. This is a capital place for the office, as it is ill the centre of the town- | ship, and ivill thus concentrate all the public buildings in one block. The carpenters are busy putting the timbers on the railway bridge over the Maerewhenua, so that we may soon expect to see the rails on the north side of the river. The railway is quite blocked with materials for the new line, and doubtless the station master will be glad to see the line started, so that he may have a little more space in the yard.
