ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE OAMAETJ MAIL. Sib, —Upon my arrival in Oamaru to-day I have been much surprised and deeply pained to learn that a number of circulars I had posted in Dunedin for residents here have been charged as letters, and therefore the recipients have been put to expense, and no doubt have formed a not very favorable impression of the careless sender. I have to ask you through your columns to allow me to apologise to those persons, and to assure themlhat both in Melbourne and Sydney (where I am in business) the circular would have been accepted as such. I findhere that the regulation requires threefourths of the side of the envelope to be open, of which I was not aware. I hope, therefore, your readers will readily forgive my want of experience in your Gofony, and I will endeavor to show the proof of my regret to any that may honor we with a visit at the Mechanics' Institute during the next two days.—l & c . P. E. Reynolds. Star and Garter Hotel, March 24th, 1879.
