(per press association.) WELLINGTON. March 19. A man was garotted and robbed of 17s in Courtney Place last night. The culprit, named John Connell, was arrested. March 20. At a meeting of the Wellington shareholders of D'Urrille Island Copper Mining Company last night, a strong feeling of dissatisfaction was expressed at the management of the mine, and steps were taken to call an extraordinary meeting of shareholders with a view to moving the headquarters of the company from Blenheim to Wellington. It was stated that the ore sent to Newcastle for smelting gave under ten per cent, of copper, but that richer lodes have been found, and that some Australian experts who had recently visited the island, reported most favorably of the prospects of the mine. DUNEDIN. March 19. ' The Hon. J. Macandrew arrived last night by the northern express. The Attorney-General will probably be in Wellington when the new Governor arrives. Mr. John O. Eva, President of the Ocago Cricket Association, received the fallowing from Lord Harris : —Sir, I cannot tell you how much we regret our inability to oblige the members of the Dunedin C.C. by joining them in a friendly «;iine for the benefit of the sufferers by the late accident at Kaitangata, but our engagements peremptorily demand our departure for Christchurch at once. CHRISTCHURCH. March 19. The contract for the extension for the northern railway from Amberley to Wai[>aia lias been let to Peter M'Grath, contractor, Pvangtora, for L 21.403 Is. Last night 34,000 bags of grain had accumulated at the various stations on the Christchurch section of railways. About 11.000 bags were conveyed to Christchurch and Tiinaru during the day. A very acceptable addition to the railway rolling stock was made yesterday by the arrival of 20 waggons from Auckland, and 20 from Napier. These will be placed in running order at once. TIM All U. March 10. The barque Loweswater, sails for London to-morrow, with 8100 sacks of wheat. A man named Thomas M'Kcnna, a tailor, was found dead on the beach this morning, at an inquest a verdict of accidental death w;is returned. The Kaitangata fund collections are coming in freely, and fully L4UO will be raised in this district. HOKITIKA. March 19. A narty of miners at Kumara had a f washing tip last Saturday, and the result is 400 ounces of gold since the commencei incut of the new year. ! AUCKLAND.
