s v i . ,-GASISBRQGE: CLUB. '' The annual match between the' Oaniaru sand**?' ...(Dunedm), -Glabs. „ placed yesterday at Dunediii, aiid resulted in-Sl-very .decided defeat for the Oamaru .team v The Carisbrook team were the first to go'to the -wickets,'and-■right merrily they-handled-the willow,. treating the borefiiig very_fr'eely. The bowling of the Oaniaru men, though sometimes dangerous on their own ground, proved decidedlyweak when tried .on a strange ground and opposed by such batsmen as the Carisbrook can produce, and the result was that runs came - very freely despite- the many changes made. <j. Millington, Lowe, HowOrth, Hartley, and G. Fenwick, who may be considered the pick of the. Oamaru bowlers, were each tried, but without''avail, tlie last wicket of tbeOa-risr brook team not falling: until 200 runs had been placed on the scoring paper. The fielding of the Oamaru men was not brilliant), though: not :■absolutely bad. . Vernon played a fine innings of 46 without giving a. chance, while Fen wick made 32, M'iTeiT 31, _A. Oargiir 28, and Rose 2.4,; (not out). The Oaniaru team, in their first innings, only succeeded in compiling 32, of which number Creagh contributed 10 and F. Feriwick 'B. The innings was a very tame affair, runs coming very slowly.. Having made so poor a total, the Oaniaru team had to follow their innings,' and this time they made a much better show, 58 being obtained for-the. loss of two wickets. F.'Feirwick' making - . SS not-out, and Millington-17. ■ The match was declared in favor of 1 the ; Garisbrook Club ok: ■the : fjrst. hillings.-... : ■; . .. .
