The weather is very fine for the races. It was quite a hunting morning—an easterly wind and a cloudy sky. The course is two miles from the Post Office, on the Shag Valley road. Mr. James, of the Royal Hotel, and Mr. Kerr, of the Carrier's Arms, dispensed the cup which cheers the heavy of heart, and gave a capital luncheon to the hungry. Mr. Cunningham, of Palmerston, in the teetotal line, displayed the good things of life in immense profusion. The bookmakers and the men with the thistle, crown, and heart business, with the ball and the dice, attracted considerable notice, and took some money. The musical German family discoursed airs familiar to foreign ears, mingled with cries of "3 to 1,1 lay," "So freely you win 3 so freely pay." Skittles were patronised just behind the Royal, and lucky bags and other pleasing modes of dropping a shilling were scattered about the course. The Club is indepted to Mr. Barney O'-Neill for the use of his 30-acre paddock in which to hold their meeting in, not being possessed of one of their own.
The events were as follows : Maiden Plate, of 30 sovs., li- miles ; weight for age ; for all horses that have never won an advertised race exceeding 20 sovs; entrance, 2 sovs.
