Mr. Balmer supported an application from Mr. W. ft. l>iehl, Otepopo. to Mr. P. Johnston, whieh was also ; granted. The transfer of tisense from Mr. i George Harper to Mr. John Rodger*, of Pfgapara,. was granted. The transfer of a bottle tkense from Mr. Cfeorge Adams, of : Kafcanui. to Mr. John Henderson lapsed on account of the absence of anyone to support it. Mr. O'Meaglver applied on behalf of , Mr. Hugo Lippert for a bottle license. This application was strongly supported by witnesses' from the country, who proved that it would be of considerable convenience to them if the application were granted. The application was ordered to stand over till the nest quarterly day. An application for the transfer of the hcense far the Royal Hotel from Mr. R. Richardson to Mr. J. th ' Kett was granted, as were also those for the Northern Hotel from Mr. J. Johnston to Mr. O. Ames, for the Shamrock Hotel front Mr. ft. Amos to Mr. I*. Croft, and for the Star and Carter Kotet from Mr. C. L. Longford to Mr. ftiUespi't.

The minute* of last meeting having been read and confirmed, it was. resolved that no pass-out cheques be issued at th« ensuing 9how.. Evans, agent for the British and i, Foreign Bible Society, gave an interesting 'address.. After the meeting had been 'opened with singing and prayer, the: Rev. Mr. Todd, who* occupied the chair, explained 'the object of the meeting, and introduced : the Rev.. Mr. Evans, this- gentleman then gavti: a long and somewhat circumstantial account of the work that had been performed by the Bible Society: how the tSibte had been introduced into- France. Kuswia. and other countries, and how the presentation of th« Scriptures had beer* the mean* of shedding tight and spreading the fiespel I truths where hitherto-darkness and ignorance \ had r»rgn«d. He wound np with an earnest appeal for assistance to> the Society in its worfc of spreading the Scriptures, amongst | all nation* of th« e:irth. The Rev. Mr. ! Patwson also* delivered an ait.tress npon the: same subject, and after votes of tt»nfcs had butsn passed to- the Rev. Mr. Evan* and the; chairman, the benediction waa pronounced, ; ivad the meeting closed. Tn« inspection parade of the hcadqtrartcr-t : companies wa» held last evening, when the Citizen Cadets turned ont in strong force, | bxtt there was only a. poor attendance of the (Artillery and No.. I Company. After the ! parade Major Steward commented strongly ; upon th« paucity of the attendance, which ihe characterised aa unfair to the officers, ; especially in view of the approaching annual inspection by Major Withers.
