SPORTING.
TRAINING NOTES. (by telegraph, from our own correspondent. ) Dunedin, Fobruai'y 24. This morning the Fovbury Racecourse presented quite v, lively appearance. Goodman's trio, Playboy, Chancellor, and York, wore the first to put in an appearance. The latter two, in clothing, covered about half-a-mile of the turf at a smart pace. Mason sent Camballo, in- company with Stead's Mata, a spin of a mile and a half. Camballo appeared' to be in prime fettle, and showed good staying powers. Eversley and Huntingdon performed two miles together. The steeplechaser went well, but the colt, with his long strides, appeared to outpace the '■' fencer" at the finish. Foul play, in toilette, and Nemo, stripped, were sent the Cup distance. The former appeared to travel well, but the latter showed uv>mistake.ible'sigiis of distress at the finish. Marie Antoinette did walking exercise. and Dundee and Adamant, minus their . toilette,, were sent for a. fast gallop of a mile and a half. Horsfall's King Quail . did a two miio hard gallop at very good - going. Ratcatcher did a promenade, j while The Agent went for a two i mile gallop without negotiating the i fences. Laertes did a heavy sweat. This . horse appears to have too much ironwork j horse. Ray started Maritana and Titama j for a two mile spin at a very sharp pace, ] but the latter appeared too fast for her f stable companion, and was held from the I outset. Templeton and Sinking Fund \ were sent in their turn for a two mile j buster. The brown horse went in his old form and appeared as lively as a two-year- ( old on the turf, while the chestnut gelding galloped freely. The Irish hurdle representative, Kildare, did his work on ] the tan, clearing the sticks on his course < in good style. Larrikin had a quiet . strut on the tan, and Mercer treated \ Tommy to a very heavy sweat, r Te Kooti, the Maori warrior, amused him- , soK by walking round the course. Dodson's Sapphira covered a couple of miles in very poor form, and I am afraid she ' will chase her company home on Thursday. Te Whetu did two miles* moving very j well. Fenella kept the old horse com- i pany during the last half-mile. Dione, \ the s;x furlong candidate, went a mile in , company with Atlantic. Duntroon and , Minnie covered a mile at a sharp pace. ; Benjiroo was sent two miles at top speed, i while Dead Heat, Vampire, Sir James, ] and Cloth of Gold did walking exercise, s French despatched Venus Transit for two J miles. s -=^~~ —» ( PUNEDIN CUP BETTING. \ " Beacon," in to-day's Daily Times, says that Fishhook has retrograded in the j betting owing to a rumour that he pulled ; up lame after his spin.
