(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION). WELLINGTON. February 20 A man named Wm. Langley, an accommodation house keeper at Otaki, has been committed for trial for stealing a LlO cheque from a Maori A boy about twelve years old, named Josiah Cullimore, has been arrested here on a telegraph message from Christcburch, on a charge of embezzlement. He is remanded pending the arrival of the warrant. It 13 stated that the Government have cabled to the Agent-General to send out a number of compositors. The Hon. Wi Tako wrote a farewell letter to thn Governor, to which the latter made a friendly reply. During the last few days several deputations have interviewed Mr. Macandrew, asking aid for the count}' roads in different places. The answer in each ease has been that there were no funds, and that the Government is not prepared to open the door to innumerable applications, by recommending Parliament in any one case to depart from the rule laid down, that roads should be locally made and maintained. The attendance at the Ram Fair was not very large. The bidding for Romney Marshes was spirited. Beetham's and Buchanan's Lincolns attracted a good deal of attention. Canning's Cotswold's were pronounced a good useful lot, and were frequently inquired for. They were submitted, one, or the option of the lot. The I first purchaser elected to take the lot, to the evident disappointment of many would-be buyers. Beetham Bros.' To-night the inhabitants of Cobden erected a scaffold on which they suspended the effigy of Mr. A. R. Guiness, the County Chairman, and after a series of groans the effigy was burned in the presence of a large crowd.
