(FROM OCR OWX CORRESPONDENT.) AUCKLAND. February 4. The German man-of-war Ariadne, eight guns, Captain Von Werner, has arrived from Apia, Samoa. She remains-here two or three weeks, and then returns _to Samoa. She brings dates to the 25th January. The Hamia and Laipula party are endeavoring to overawe the Malietoa party. A civil war is believed to be imminent. They have offered a position under the Government to the head of the Malietoa party. Foreigners arc warned by the local press not to interfere on the part of the Government for fear of exasperating the other side to bloodshed. Malietoa has been proclaimed King of Samoa. Hamid proclaimed him. The Red American General TJartlett has been asked by Hamia and Laipula to accept the position of Premier, and it is believed he will accpt it.

CHRLSTCHURCH. February 5. A surveyor at Ashburton named Annstrong swallowed a dose of chloral hydrate and chlorodyne and died. He had been drinking hard. Jjugler Goodwin is recovering.
