CRICKET.

Palmekston v. Oamaru. A match between the above clubs was commenced to-day, the weather being all that could be desired. F. Fenwick, captain of the Oamaru team having won the toss, decided to bat, and Sumpter and Snow were sent to the wickets to face the bowling of Everest and Spencer. Snow was disposed of before scoring, and was succeeded by Creagh, who, after making 1, was given outl bw to Everest. Nicolls came next, but was bowled by a bailer from Spencer for nil. De Lautour then joined Sumpter, but the latter gentleman's time had come, he being well caught by Spencer in the slips, after making 18 by careful cricket. .Walls now came in, but his life was short and sweet, for after making a fine hit for four and a single he succumbed to Spencer. De Lautour IC, and Cooke 9, played well, and the innings closed for 62.

The Palmerstonians, who were two men short, and had to enlist the services of Messrs. J. D. Kett and B. Thomson, then went to the wickets. Cathcart and Spence, the first to do battle, were both foolishly run out. Cobden, who remained at the wickets some time, was eventually disposed of by one of De Lautour's peculiar round arm slows. Wickets then fell pretty rapidly, and the innings closed for the poor total of 23. The bowling and fielding of both sides were very good. From this time it became apparent that the Oamaru Club would obtain a tolerably easy victory, and with confidence they entered upon their second innings, and put together 00. The match was then closed, the Oamaru team winning by 39 runs on the first innings. We give the scores as follows :
