REAPER AND BINDER TRIAL.

The trial of Messrs. Gammon an<' Deering's Harvester King, took place thismorning, at Mr. Donaldson's farm, in tin. neighborhood of Awamoa. The crop reserved for the trial was a rather lighl and badly shaken piece of wheat, on nearly level land. Mr. James Hassell. senr., and Mr. Hemming, the manufacturers' agent in Oamaru, and the travelling agent, respectively, were in attendance. The machine was fresh out of the case, and had only been put together this morning in time for the trial, and in consequence rather stiff in its working. Two heavy horses were yolked to it, and the driver (a man who had nevet driven a machine of the kind before) started at a sharp pace. The machine binds from fifteen to twenty acres a day, according to the crop. Its draught is 2501bs average on all lands, and it is well adapted for horses of medium draught. The fans do their work well, and are elevated or depressed by means of a handy hand-lever, within the grasp of the driver. The elevators work with remarkable ease, while the position of the spool, the tension of the wire, and the easy and gentle delivery of the sheaf when bound, demonstrate sufficiently to almost anyone the mechanical simplicity of the machine. Hassell, Son, and Co. have already placed two Harvester Kings' in this district, and their proprietors, Mr. Collis, of the White Rocks, and Mr. Duiguid, are very well satisfied with them.
