EDUCATIONAL MEETINGS.

LIVINGSTONE. Tfrom our own correspondent.] The annual statutory meeting for the election of a School Committee was held on Monday, in the Schoolliouse. The chair was occupied by Mr. C. F. Roberts, who in terms of the Education Act called upon the Secretary of the retiring Committee to repert its proceedings during the past year. A financial statement only was given as follows:—Total income, L4O 17s 7d ; expenditure, L 35 10s 2d ; balance in hand, L 5 Is sd. This amount, together with some outstanding accounts, will give the new Committee a balance of about LlO. The Committee during the year have had to consider some very important matters, and to effect various improvements in connection with the school buildings. On the motion of Mr. Smith, seconded by Mr. M'Quade, the report was unanimously adopted, and a vote of thanks tendered the retiring Committee. Tlie Chairman, Mr. Botting, in responding, said this recognition of their services, while at any time gratifying, was particularly so under present circumstances, and referred to the fact that the Board's Inspector, Mr. Petrie, had made two visits to the school during the year, and expressed his satisfaction at its condition. The Committee were asked if they were in possession of a copy of thatgentleman's report. The Secretary replied they were not; a copy, however, was forwarded from the teacher, with his consent to allow it to be read to the meeting. The Chairman, after reading the same, said the community had every reason to be gratified with such results, and referred to the fact that from the slanderous smalltalk of a clique of malcontents in the community, he was by no means prepared to hear a report so nattering to tlie teacher.

[I may mention that happily the above are in the minority, and form the least respectable part of the community. One very prominent individual, however, who has no personal interest in educational matters, and who, from his position, should rise above such vituperation, has lent his worst influences to this, vulgar minority.] The election of a Committee was nextproceeded with, and eventually the following gentlemen were duly elected: —Messrs. Roberts, Frater, Gilbert, Howe, Kermode, Botting, and M'Quade. It was then resolved by a large majority, -''That

this meeting considers it expedient that the compulsory clauses of the Education Act should be adopted in the district, and calls upon the Committee to bring the same into force forthwith. On the motion of Mr. Frater, a cordial vote of thanks was passed to the Chairman, and the newly, elected Committee appointed Mr. Botting Chairman, and Mr. Roberts Secretary, and arranged their first meeting for Ist February. The prqoeadings then close.

"WESTON. (raoit.oim vvnx CosßEappjrDEKT.) The householders o'f Weston met. on Monday evening to elect a new School Committee. The attendance was small. Mr. R. Jackson was voted to the chair. The old Committee gave their report, showing that educational matters were in a satisfactory state, and the following gentlemen were elected a Committee for the ensuing year :—Messrs. R. Jackson, R. Bain, R. Meek, A. Isdale, J. Jackson, D. M'Gregor, and D. Genge. MOERAKI. Not having been favored with a list of the gentlemen elected for this district, we were forced to obtain tho information from a contemporary. The names then given were, however, incorrect. We now give a corrected list of the new Committee ;is follows : —Messrs. Culling, Nicholson, Mercer, Munro, Henderson, Gibb, and Simmons.
