EDUCATIONAL MEETINGS.

Our first annual meeting took place oil Monday evening, at Mr. Harris' Hotel, and commenced by the chairman, Mr. E. C. Smith, reading the report for the past four months. As the Committee was only formed on the 23rd September, they had the usual amount of writing and pushing to get the school, but it was not until the 23rd December that anything definite was known from the Education Board, when the Chairman received a letter, stating that Mr. M. Morton was the successful tenderer, and that the buildings should be completed by the 22nd February next. The buiidings are now in course of erection, and it is expected that they will be finished by the contract time. The report having been adopted on the motion of Mr. Thomas AV'ounton, it was seconded and carried unanimously, the meeting appearing thoroughly satisfied with the manner in which their Committee had been working for them. The Chairman then retired, and a fresh ballot having been taken, the following gentlemen were elected : Messrs. A. Bell, E. C. Smith, Thomas Snow, G. A. Harris, J. Collins, Charles M'Bean, and A. A. Smith, to form a Committee for the ensuing year. Mr. E. C. Smith having again been voted Chairman, spoke very highly of the manner in which the Secretary, Mr. F. Spence, had been working for the school, and proposed that he be again Secretary, which was seconded, ,and carried unanimously. The Chairman having intimated the time of next meeting, 31st January, the proceedings terminated with a vote of thanks to the Chairman and Secretary. A Library Committee was formed immediately afterwards, with Mr. F. Spence as Secretary, and Mr. R. Todber, Treasurer.

OTEPOPO. (FROM OUR OffX CORRESPONDENT.) The annual statutory meeting of the Otepopo householders was held in the School-room 011 Monday niglit, for the purpose of electing seven of their number to act as a School Committee for the next twelve months. There was a large attendance, and Mr. C. Beckingsale was voted to the chair. He then read the annual report and balance-sheet, both of which were considered satisfactory, and, on the motion of Mr. A. Paterson, seconded by Mr. H. Morrison, they were adopted. A ballot was then taken, which resulted in the election oE Messrs. A. Paterson, T. Anderson, T. Henderson, C. Beckingsale, A. Ross, H. Morrison, and J. Budge. All unanimous vote of thanks was accorded to the retiring Committee, after which the meeting broke up.'

AWAMOKO. (FKOM OCR OWX COKRESrO.VDEXT.) Tiie statutory meeting of householders for the election of a School Committee for Awamoto district for the ensuing year was held on Monday night, Mr. Thomas Jarcline in the chair. The retiring Committee's report stated that at the beginning of the year there was a balance in hand of LIS 7s, the income from the Board was Ll6, and amount of donations LI 10s; while the expenditure was L 36 9s Bd, including L 33 for fencing glebe and garden, thus leaving a debt of L 3 12s Bd. The average attendance for the first quarter of the year was 19, and the number of pupils on the roll was 30, while for the lastquarter the average was 30, and the namber on the roll 43, showing a very satisfactory progress for the year. After the report and balance-sheet were read and adopted, the election was proceeded with. Seven gentlemen only were nominated, so the Chairman declared them duly elected. The names are Messrs. J. Johnston, J. Henderson, J. M'Auley, N, M'Phee, T- Bang, Thog. Jardine, and Ej Stewart. All except Mr. Stewart were members of the old Committee. " TEANERAKI. (from a correspondent. ) The annual meeting for the election of a School Committee for this district was

held on Monday evening. Mr. Lees occupied the chair. The report for the first year was of a highly satisfactory nature, and showed that there was a very handsome balance in hand. With one exception the old Committee was reelected.

MOERAKI. We learn that the following gentlemen were elected a School Committee for Moeraki :—R. B. Twelftree. R. Petrie, Alexander M'Kay, John Shennan, T. Matheson, D. Munro, and W. Munro. MAHENO. We learn from Maheno that, owing to the paucity of the attendance at the meeting on Saturday evening, no Committee was elected. «, HAMPDEN. [FROM A CORRESPONDENT. J At the meeting held on Monday evening, under the Education Act, the following gentlemen were elected a School Committee :—Messrs. A. M'Kerrow, W. Pollock, J. Findlay, S. Harris, A. Gillies, D. C. Martin, and H. T. Murcott. PAPAKAIO. [FROJI OCR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] The School Committee appointed at the meeting on Monday evening were: —The Rev. J. Steven ; Messrs. -D. Borrie, J. Gibson, D. Shaw, J. Dunn, W. Doig, and J. Wilson.
