Deputation From the MaerewhentiH Mixing Association <ro Tub Ho.™ R. Stout. B Messrs. C. F, Roberts and JoseM Neale waited upon the Hon. HoberH Stout on Saturday last, in: reference iH presenting a memorial praying the Gc9 vernment not to sell certain land inwj block at Maerewlienua, upon which H number of miners are at work, but '|j9 disrjose of it in small blocks under tk|l agricultural lease system. It pointed o|9 that miners would, if this were done, IB able to supplement their earnings |9 the goldfields—in which great inroa|Sj were made through the extensivenesiMJ water for mining purposes—by engagi in agricultural pursuits. Mr. Stout received the deputation iri every courtesy, and replied that hev not personally aware of the intentions the Government in relation to the lai bat that he would make inquiries of t Commissioner and give the deputati every available information at a later ho in the day. The deputation then adjourned, ai met Mr. Stout again at 1 o'clock, whf the following memo, was handed to it: " Memo for Mr. Stout,—l beg to si) that the petitioners have been mis formed with reference to proposal to S land in the locality named to the ri holder, no such proposition ever hafl been made to or entertained by the L Board. This land waa decided to be n divided with the view of leasing it uni the ' Agricultural Regulations,' care bei taken to reserve auriferous lands * water races, but the survey, I underata has been delayed for a short time at! request of. the Maerewhenua Min Association, until the district should visited by Professor Ulrich.
