The Canterbury cricketers have suft'ercd a severe defeat at the hands of the Mclliounie Club. In the first innings of the Melbourne team a total of 143 was obtained, Alexander contributing 77. The Canterbury men only made 87, Watson, with 24, being the highest scorer, Ashby and Ncilson each making 17. The Melbourne men in their second innings completely collared the bowling, and when the stumps were drawn nine were out for L'.'Jii. Tennent was not out for 75, and Kendall not out with 54. M'Domiell made :Jl, and M'Kinnon 20.
