LIVINGSTONE.
[from our own* correspondent. ] Livingston, January 7.
The system of driving has been adopted here with most satisfactory results, and is likely to cause employment for a large number of persons. Soon, men making now 7s to 8s per day working for employers, could make 10s a day and upwards oil their own account.
Professor Ulrich is to visit the goldfield to-morrow, Btli inst., under commission of the Government for the purpose of making a geological report thereon. S. E. Slirimski, Esq., M.H.R., has notified his willingness to accompany him.
It will be remembered the Professor's visit is the result of untiring energy of the Committee of the Miners' Association, and I presume will be a red-letter day for the district, as many of the miners have a collection of very interesting fossils, of fresh water and marine origin, and on which Professor TJlrich's opinion will be an item of general interest and topographical importance.
