THE CALEDONIAN SOCIETY'S CHARITY CONCERT.
The laudable efforts of the Caledonian Society to raise funds for the Hospital by means of a miscellaneous concert were crowned with success. The attendance was not so large as it was expected it would be ; but the front seats were well filled, and they realised a large sum at 4s. each. The following was the programme : First part—" Where hath Scotland found her fame," Mr Fraser (encored) ; duet, "The Chimes," Misses Hardy ; "Scenes that are brightest," Miss Gifford ; pianoforte duet, Masters O'Meagher (encored) ; " 'Tis long, long springtime," Miss Taylor (encored) ; " Nancy Lee," Mr O'Meagher (encored) ; " Why chime those bells," Mrs Kinnear (encored). Second part — " Herz, mein Herz," Mrs Murison ; " The ivy green," Miss Honour ; " Death of Nelson," Mr Fraser; Scotch reel, Messrs Murray, Buchanan, Watson, and Calder,to the piping of Mr Sutherland (encored) ; pianoforte duet, Masters O'Meagher (encored); "The heart that once," Mr Walls ; violin solo, Mr G. Jones; duet, " Peace to thy spirit, Messrs Halland and Mitchell ; song, Mr O'Meagher. We have not space to criticise each performance, even if we approved of criticising a performance that was got up in the greatest possible burry ; but we must not omit to make special mention of the pianoforte performances of the Masters O'Meagher —two little fellows whose hands are yet so small that it is a mystery how they so accurately perform pieces by no means easy in the case of adults. As might have been expected, their debut was characterised by expressions of delight on the part of the audience. Mr Duncan Sutherland (the President of the Caledonian Society), thanked those who had assisted at the entertainment, and stated that about L3O had been taken at the door and L2O-worth of tickets had been sold.
