NGAPARA CALEDONIAN GAMES.

(KlillM (ITU OWN COIiKF.sroNIU'.NT.) The third annual gathering for engaging in Caledonian games was held on Boxing Day in a paddock opposite the "Railway Station, kindly given for the occasion by E. Meiilove. Esq. Although the morning looked rather gloomy, and some of our townsmen predicted rain, the people began to gather in from all quarters at an early hour of the day. and by the time that the morning train arrived the mist had cleared off', and the sun was again pouring forth its burning rays. The special train, due at noon, came in ahoii; an hour late, bringing with it a goodly number of spectators and the Railway Brass Band, which played on the grounds during the day, enlivening the proceedings with their melodious strains. There were about 250 people on the grounds. The following'gentlemeii acted as judged : Messrs. JK. Roxburgh, }}. Little." D. O'Rorfa?) J. T.rceii, J. S. Campbell, A. Halfour, J. The want of refreshment booths on the ground, was much felt by everyone. The paddock hieing so convenient to the hotels, it was agreed that they each should subscribe a stated sum, instead of having, as usual, booths on the ground. This proved to be a mistake. A temperance booth was a much-felt want, However, on the whole, everything went very satisfactorily, and there were very few, if any, to be seen the worse of liquor on the grounds. Mr. 3*. \V. Davis and others collected some money on the grounds for races among the smaller boys and girls, which all'orded great amusement to both old and young. Theprogranimu was only just finished when the whistle of the engine announced the departure of the train, and they moved oft", the band playing liibi-rjly, seemingly highly satisfied with the day's amusement.
