THE ITCHEN STREET ACCIDENT.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE EVENING MAIL. I Sir, —Soon after the occurrence of the fatal accident in Itchen-_s.tre.et, in September last, owing tq the unprotected condition of the. embankment, I noticed that the Municipal Council passed a resolution calling upon the owner of the land to erect a fence within a specified time, in default of which they intended to proceed to perform that duty themselves at the landlord's expense. It is now three months since that resolution was passed and made puhliG, and yet no steps whatever hay-fe been taken with regard to it, either by the owner or the Corporation. As I pass by the locality and see children playing on the brink, I shudder when I think of the possibility of another fatal fall, and wonder how it caw be this short cut to eternity is not blocked up. Can you inform me ? Yours, &c., Pro Bono Publico. Oamaru, Dec. 16,1878. ■ ♦ TO THE EDITOR OF THE EVENING MAIL. Sir, —Coukl you inform me when blqcks on runs 17 and 28 (Ben Lomond and Otekaike), which it was stated by the Government were to be immediately sold under the deferred, payment system, are likely to be in the market ?—I am, &c., Anxious. [The survey of the 9000-acre block on run 28 is completed, but the plans have not yet been sent in tq the Survey Office, Although it was stated that a portion of vun 17 was to be sold on deferred payments, we are unable to discover that anything has yet been done towards this object.—Ed.
