ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE EVE>-I>'C MAIL. Sir,- —I was a passenger by the Maerewhenua train this morning, and the necessity for having a guard's van attached to the Maerewhenua trains was on that occasion more clearly than ever demonstrated. The second class passenger carriage was quite small enough for the passengers ; in fact, there was not this morning sitting room for everybody, and several were, compelled to stand. But this is not all. Goods of various "kinds were stowed away in all parts of the* carriage, and in some cases, under the" seats. _ This is most unpleasant, and necessitates the occasional fumbling of the guard beneath the seat upon which a female may be sitting, causing great annoyance. The omnium gatherum in the carriage on Saturdays—the interesting collection of "live and dead stock"— would do credit to any museum, so far as variety is concerned. This sort of thing has lasted quite long enough, and the sooner an improvement is made the better pleased will the travelling people of Maerewhenua be. If a guard van cannot be afforded by the Departmemy-the small second class passenger carriage might be utilised for that purpose, and a second carriage put on for passengers. Yours.j &c, Buzz Fuzz.
