The railway terminus question ami the action of the Government thereon is creating considerable interest, an.l a public meeting is called by the Mayor to discuss the question. On and after the Ist of January next, the Post Offices at Oamaru, Timarn, and Wangarnii will be constituted Chief Post OiKees. The undermentioned new postal districts will therefore be established. The postal district of Oamaru shall extend from the River Shag to the Hirer Waitaki, and include all SubPost OHiccs novi" established, or which may be established, within the County of Waitaki. The following Sub-Post Offices, which are within the proposed postal district of Oamaru, will be under the immediate control of the Chief Postmaster. Oamaru :—Awamoko, Duntroon, Enfield,Hampden, Kakanui, Maerewheiiua, JMaheno, lioeraki, Ngapara, Oamaru (chief ofnee), Omarama, Otepopo. Papakaio, Pukcuri, Upper Furry, Weston. Tiie postal district of Timaru shall extend from the Waitaki River to the Rivor Rangitata, and include all sub-offices now established within the Counties of Waimate and Geraldine. The following Sub-Post Otiiees, which arc within the proposed postal district of Timaru, will be under the immediate control of the Chief Postmaster of Timaru : Albury, Blue Cliffs, Burke's Pass, Cave, Fairlic Creek, Ueraldine, Hilton, Lake Tekapo, Makikihi, Orari, Ofaio, Pareora, Pleasant Point, Pleasant Valley, Pukai Ferry, Rangitafca, Sandietown, Silverstream, St. Andrews, Temuka, Timaru (chief office), Waiho, Waihi Bush, Waimate, Waimate Junction, Waitaki, Waitaki Flat, Washdyke, and Winchester. Mr. W. W. Beswick is to, be Acting Chief-.Fostmaster fOi- the postal district of Timaru, and Mr. Fred. Bicknoll, Chief Postmaster for the Oamaru district.

In connection with the new postal districts established at Timaru, Oamaru, and Wanganui, it will be notified that, as the accounts of the depositors in the Post Office Savings

Banks which may have been opened prior to the 31st December next, cannot after that date be operated upon at any of the offices of the districts until the accounts are transferred, depositors resident within each of these postal districts will 'be requested, before the end of this month, to forward their deposit books to the Postmaster of Oamaru, Timaru, and Wanganui respectfully, with notice that they require their accounts transferred.

Advices also state that the directors of the Company wired to their agents here to withdraw any properties, if possible, that had been advertised for sale under previous instructions.

CHRISTCHURCH. December 13. The following is the team selected to proceed to Victoria :—D. Ashby, T. S. Baker, E. Fowler, C. Frith, W. Frith, E. T. A. Fuller, J. Harland, G. H. Lee, W. F. Neilson (captain), A. M. Ollivier, and 6. Watson. On Saturday next they play a local twenty-two. Mr. George Rignold, the eminent ti'agedian, passed through here yesterday on his way to Wellington. The annual Masonic Ball of the Canterbury Lodge, No. 104S, E.G., was a great success last evening. A very handsome silver testimonial will be taken by the Canterbury team to Australiafor presentation to Bailey, the cricketer. It is the gift of a few Tasmanian residents in jhis town, and is given to mark their appreciation of him as one of the Australian Eleven in the Old Country.

Last night an address of welcome was presented to the Bishop on his return. There was also a special thanksgiving service at St. Michael's. In replying to the address, the Bishop said that he would take the opportunity at another time of giving an account of what was done at the Lambeth Conference. The Bishop afterwards made the presentation of prizes at Christ's College Grammar School.

GREYMOUTH. December 13. Brindle's Racecourse Hotel was burned to the ground this morning. The landlord andwife and family barely escaped with their lives. Nothing was saved.
